La missione, quindi, стала un raro приклад humanitarian agreement amid an active war, though not a general peace. Some residents remained in Olekshy because of mined roads and other obstacles, while Russia rejected Ukraine's proposal to extend the ceasefire.

Che cosa è successo

After routes were cleared of mines, a humanitarian convoy delivered aid to Olekshy. The main evacuation stage began on 30 October, when two columns left the city: one headed toward Ukraine and the other toward Russia. Twenty-five buses with 750 seats and ambulances for people with limited mobility were prepared. Residents traveling toward Ukrainian-controlled territory were taken to Anapa in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, then flown on four aircraft to Gomel airport in Belarus on 31 October and continued by bus to the Ukrainian border in Chernihiv Oblast. Humanitarian cargoes were delivered as intended, and neither side reported a violation of the local ceasefire after it took effect. Some residents chose evacuation to Russia, while others stayed in Olekshy. Ukraine proposed extending the arrangement, but Russia declined.

Come la raccontano le fonti ucraine

Ukrainian coverage emphasizes the humanitarian results: the delivery of assistance, evacuation of nearly 800 people, transport for severely injured residents and the participation of Ukrainian officials. It also stresses the pre-existing emergency in Olekshy, including shortages, limited hospital capacity, mined roads and residents left behind. Military reporting highlights Russia's use of the pause to rotate troops, fortify positions, expand anti-drone protection and increase ammunition deliveries, while noting that Ukrainian forces observed the agreement. Ukrainian officials present the operation as a possible precedent for further humanitarian initiatives.

Come la raccontano le fonti internazionali

International coverage focuses on the US-brokered local ceasefire, the delivery of aid and the evacuation of nearly 800 people. It frequently highlights the unusual route through Russia and Belarus and the role of Melania Trump as coordinator and mediator. Some reports also focus on evidence of continued Russian military movements and logistics during the humanitarian pause. The overall figure of nearly 800 evacuees was widely reported without a breakdown of those heading to Ukraine, those going to Russia or those remaining in Olekshy.

Dove le versioni divergono

Ukrainian military authorities said Russian forces used the humanitarian pause to move personnel and equipment, reinforce positions, expand anti-drone protection and increase ammunition logistics. A Russian military spokesperson instead said troops restored fortifications, strengthened communications, moved personnel and evacuated wounded and dead soldiers. Some Ukrainian outlets also noted that independent verification of the Ukrainian military claims was impossible because of the fighting.

Contesto

Olekshy has been under Russian occupation since February 2022 and lies on the left bank of the Dnipro, about four kilometres from Kherson. More than 24,000 people lived there before the full-scale invasion; approximately 2,000, including 50 children, remained by late September. On 17 October, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said about 1,700 residents remained without adequate food, medicine or a safe evacuation route. The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam in June 2023 caused flooding and environmental damage, further complicating evacuation through inundated areas, damaged infrastructure and mined roads. The local hospital continued operating amid a severe shortage of medicines, and a visiting journalist reported seeing many severely injured patients unable to move independently.
